Northern Atolls Surfing
World Famous Surf Spot in the Maldives
Discovered by shipwrecked surfers in the 1970’s, the Northern Atolls are made up of North Male and South Male, pristine and ideal for surfing. The Northern Atolls, once a well-kept secret, have now become a significant part of the global surf scene, hosting international competitions and serving as the heart of the Maldives growing surf culture. Offering a balanced mix of left and right breaks, some of the more well-known breaks in the north being Pasta Point, Chickens, Cokes, Jailbreaks, Sultans, Lohi’s, Foxy’s, Guru’s and riptides in the south. Though the surf is rarely flat, you can catch the best waves during spring and summer with heights reaching from two to eight feet with the biggest swells appearing in the late summer.Â
While the North Male Atoll is considered home to the best waves in the Maldives, it’s also the most popular, with some of the longest rides in the region, extending beyond 100 metres, making this, a surfers paradise.
