Which Maldives Island Should I visit
Top 3 Islands in the Maldives to Visit
Made up of 26 atolls and just over 2000 islands, only four percent of the Maldives sits above sea level, making this one of the most sought-after destinations to visit. Rumoured to be non-existent within the next 30 or so years, why wait to visit the Maldives. For a small island nation in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives has an incredible number of adventures to experience, from diving and snorkelling to ultimate luxury and unique experiences all wrapped into one. Home of three UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Reserves and some of the most breathtakingly vibrant marine life, here our three favourite islands to visit in the Maldives.
Top 3 Islands in the Maldives to Visit
1. The Sea of Stars, Vaadhoo
Experience the “Sea of Stars” at Vaadhoo Island in the Raa Atoll. The plankton rich waters create bioluminescence that glows brightly, making it look like a starry night sky. The more movement in the water, the more they glow! Swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking in bioluminescence is safe, although we recommend taking extra safety precautions due to night fall. Though you may be able to witness phytoplankton in other places, Vaadhoo Island is most well-known for this, depending on water conditions. Roll the dice and venture to the island and to if you’re lucky enough to experience the Sea of Stars.
2. Manta Point, Dhigurah
Dhigurah Island is a famous hotspot for Manta Ray and other incredible marine life. Swim out to Manta Point which is a popular dive site off Dhigurah that attracts large families of Manta Ray during the Manta season from May to November. The waters are nutrient dense making it a perfect feeding ground for our Manta friends and other schools of unique tropical fish. Home to some of the most vibrant coral gardens in the Maldives and elegant sea animals, Manta Point is high on the to-do list for many divers and snorkellers.
3. Underwater dining, Ailafushi
If a unique and luxurious dining experience with a twist is what you’re searching for, then look no further. Ailafushi Island is the place to be, and here is why; Only Blu is an underwater restaurant at OBLU Xperience, a stunning private island resort with incredible chefs. A truly immersive experience, journey just under two metres below sea level for a front row seat to nature’s most beautiful show. Observe the stunning marine life swim and play while you dine on an exquisite meal curated by talented chefs.
