The Best Time to Visit the Maldives
The Maldives is situated in the Indian Ocean, near the equator, giving it the distinctive advantage of enjoying warm weather throughout the year. Depending on who you speak to and what you are looking for from your Maldives holiday experience, it is the perfect holiday destination at any time of the year. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit, there is always We certainly think so, and here are our reasons why:
Peak season
Typically, December, January and February are considered the best months to visit the Maldives. With an average temperature of 26°C to 31°C sunny, dry days, and minimal rainfall, the sea is calm, and the underwater visibility is clear. Paired with gentle, warm ocean breeze, this makes for the perfect time to relax at the beach or enjoy water sports. Being peak season, there are more tourists around and you can expect to pay higher rates for higher demand.
Low season
Thankfully, because of its close proximity to the equator, the Maldives does experience year-round warm weather. May to October is the monsoon season which means you will likely experience rain showers and humidity. However, don’t let this deter you from visiting the Maldives during this season; it’s important to be aware that the Maldivian monsoon looks like short, heavy bursts of rain, meaning you can still enjoy a beach day. With similar temperatures to peak season, you can still expect plenty of sunshine in between showers. Enjoy lower rates for activities, resorts and tours, as there are plenty of special offers during low season to promote business.
Best time to dive, snorkel and surf
The best underwater visibility is between November and April, with calm waters, this makes for the ideal time to jump in and experience the vibrant marine life. Manta ray and whale sharks come out to play during this season, so don’t be surprised to see plenty of them swimming around. The water temperatures are a fantastic 28°C and 30°C for a refreshing and warm swim. Surf season is between March to May and then again from September to November. Most surfers will enjoy surf spots during peak-season, however, there are far fewer crowds in the off-peak season than in the dry season and only surfers in the know will tell you that the southwest monsoon creates optimal waves and conditions for surfing.
