Renowned for being a honeymooner’s haven, a romantic getaway for lovers only, I’m here to bust this myth. The Maldives offers plenty more than just a private playground for two. In fact, the Maldives is a very family friendly holiday destination. Every resort is on its own private island surrounded by a safe lagoon and we recommend staying in an overwater villa with a private pool. If you’re feeling fancy, some resorts offer a private pool villa with a waterslide too. 

Overwater villas have direct access to the lagoon below which means you can jump right in and begin your day meeting the local marine life. Most resorts will provide complementary snorkel equipment and have a dive centre to help begin your explorations. The whole family can enjoy swimming through vibrant coral gardens, spotting schools of unique tropical fish, elegant manta ray, families of turtles and many other members of the underwater ecosystem. What a kaleidoscopic experience underwater: overwater, float on the calm turquoise surface, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding with shimmering blue all around you. For added thrill, encounter the Maldives from a different vantage point when you and the family go parasailing in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Spot hidden gems from an aerial view and watch the world go by as you glide through the different hues of blue. For those days you want to spend out of the sun and with a cocktail in hand, but the kids want to splash and play, your private pool will come in handy, providing an even safer environment for hours of fun in the sun. 

Take a traditional Maldivian dhoni around the atolls and watch as the friendly dolphins ride the bow waves of the boat, leaping and twirling, showing off their acrobatic skills. Your young adventurers will learn about the world first-hand and have a blast enjoying all their new experiences. 

On the days you’re ready to take some time to yourself and enjoy a massage, the kids can venture down to the resort’s kids club. Almost every resort caters to your junior explorers with kids clubs, holiday programmes and all sorts of fun adventures and learnings.
